THE HERD

In Michigan, a herd share is the only way to legally obtain unprocessed whole milk, also known as raw milk. Members lease a share of the herd and pay a weekly fee for boarding and care of the animals. They then able to get fresh milk from the cows every week!

Our cows Flora and Goldie are A2/A2 Jerseys. They are on pasture full time, year round (supplemented with hay and alfalfa grown on the farm during the winter months). We avoid use of any kind of hormones or prophylactic antibiotics and strive to care for our herd as holistically as possible.

A2/A2 milk is much more easily digestible and great for people with dairy sensitivities. Jersey milk is also high in milkfat and butterfat and on average is about 18% higher in protein than average whole milk. Because our cows are on grass full time, their milk also contains higher levels of Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) and is full of bio-available nutrients like Vitamin A, D, K and Calcium.

THE DETAILS

The lease fee is $100 for the year. One share (which equals one half gallon of milk per week) is $6. You can purchase as many shares as you need/are available. That amount will be the set amount of milk you pick up on a designated day of the week. Your milk will be fresh from that mornings milking or from the evening before!

Milk pickup from our farm store is available on your scheduled pick up day from 9am-11pm. Pick up is self serve, no need to let us know you're coming! Each herd share member has two sets of jars, so you simply return your empty jars, clean and ready to be refilled when you pick up.
